Harry’s 1,160 mile motorhome buying odyssey

With demand for motorhomes at an all-time high and supply still playing catch-up, Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld has embarked on a concerted push to buy quality vehicles for the second-hand market.

This year alone the business has bought in the region of 110 vehicles from all over the country, from the Scottish Highlands to Cornwall.

And with Elevation X, Travelworld’s Approved Used programme, buyers benefit from a 10-point promise covering preparation, presentation and aftersales support.

Travelworld sales and marketing executive Harry Price has collected 30 of the 110 new vehicles – and recently found himself on a 1,160 mile trip to collect two motorhomes in as many days.

Harry said: “We are actively looking for motorhomes and camper vans which are five-years-old or less.

“Demand is so high that supply of brand new motorhomes just cannot keep up, so this is a way for us to help more customers than we otherwise would be able to.

“I have personally collected 30 vehicles this year, but this trip from Sheffield to Norwich to the Midlands to Aberdeen was certainly an experience.”

Harry caught the train from Sheffield to Norwich to pick up a HYMER ML-T CrossOver before driving it back to Travelworld’s base in Stafford.

He then stayed the night at Birmingham Airport before a 9am flight to Aberdeen to purchase a Dethleffs Globebus I7, before returning it to base.

The sensational HYMER ML-T 570 4×4 CrossOver is a special edition model with the highest spec in its entire range. Built to survive the most challenging motoring conditions, it is equipped with the powerful 4×4 Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis and mighty 190hp engine.

The most compact selection within the award-winning Dethleffs stable, the Globebus truly comes into its own on city breaks and shorter trips, especially on tight streets and winding lanes. Great to drive and economical to run, this popular range offers plenty of design variations and options to match your exact requirements.

“It was quite an adventure,” said Harry. “The motorhomes will now be put through the Elevation X programme, including chassis and habitation preparation and detailing, before being listed for sale.

“Through Elevation X, buyers have the cast iron assurance that the motorhomes are of the very best quality and have gone through our rigorous tests.

“That’s a pledge that can’t be matched by private sellers and many dealerships.”
