Romantic places to see a sunset in the UK

We’ve collated our top five favourite romantic places to see a sunset in the UK where you can park up your motorhome or camper van.

The beauty of travelling the country in your motorhome or campervan is that you have the freedom to head off at the drop of a hat, in search of stunning beaches, lush countryside or chocolate box villages.

And after a day’s sightseeing, what could be better than settling down with a glass of something cold, watching the sun go down in the most spectacular surroundings?

  1. Sandbanks, Dorset

It’s no surprise that it was voted the best sunset-watching spot in the UK in 2021 – this beautiful sandy peninsula has a gorgeous, award-winning beach dotted with palm trees. You’ll hardly believe you’re in the UK!

Just a few miles from Bournemouth and Poole, it’s one of the country’s most exclusive areas, with property prices averaging more than £2 million. It’s no wonder it’s dubbed Britain’s Miami Beach.

  1. Silloth, Cumbria

This pretty town that borders the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) contains more than 40% of the Lake District National Park and is home to part of Hadrian’s Wall.

Its sunsets are renowned for their beauty – in fact, the great English landscape painter JMW Turner is said to have been inspired by the light over the Solway. Make sure you have your camera or smartphone at the ready.

  1. Torridon Hills, Highlands

Let’s face it – you’re spoiled for choice in Scotland when it comes to big skies, dramatic landscapes and all-round natural beauty, but we’ve chosen Torridon Hills as our sunset spot. Dramatic peaks make this a first-class backdrop for a romantic place to relax as day transforms into night.

  1. Rhossili Bay and Worms Head, Gower

Frequently named as one of the best beaches in Europe, Rhossili Bay is famed for its sunsets. The dramatic landscape and miles of sandy beach make it an attractive place to visit at any time of the day, but the end of the day is when you see the sun drop behind Worms Head. Inspirational!

  1. Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire

There was more debate in the Travelworld office about the best sunset spot in Yorkshire: there were arguments for Ikley Moor, Ribblehead Viaduct and Blackstone Edge, but Brimham Rocks edged it.

A National Trust location, it has fantastic rock formations that are more than 320 million years old and its heathland is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI).

Wherever you decide to drive, drink in those beautiful minutes of dusk and enjoy the romance of it all. For more inspiration please read our Travel guides.
