Favourite Forest Retreats For Motorhomers

With the start of school term, September can often feel like the beginning of another year…so if you fancy upping sticks to go out into the sticks of some great UK forests, then take a look below at our favourite forest retreat for motorhomers.

The Forest Of Dean- forest retreat.

This forest is based in Gloucester and sits south of Hereford and north of Bristol. It is positioned close to the River Wye and the River Severn with Gloucester located towards the east.

In total, there are around 110 square kilometres of woodland and the whole area offers activities for all the family, from biking, zip-wires and cycle tracks. Attractions in the area include the Perrygrove Railway and Treetop Adventure where there is an indoor village, café and treasure hunt. There is also Dean Forest Railway which is an 8.5 mile trip through the medieval forest to Parkend. Puzzlewood is a magical experience in the forest where there are fascinating tree and rock formations. These forest retreats add extra fun!

Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, Dean Heritage Centre, Parva Vineyard and Aunt Martha’s Victorian Tea-Rooms are other popular attractions close to the Forest of Dean.

This family-run site is open 365 days a year and benefits from a heated shower block, hard standing pitches, electric hook ups, laundry services, a shop and restaurant on site and wi-fi. There is a heated shower block, Within 5 miles there is golfing, horse riding and cycling activities.

The New Forest- forest retreat.

The New Forest is located across the counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset, in Southern England, with the nearest city being Southampton. It is 571 square kilometres and visitors are free to explore the gardens, wildlife parks and museums in abundance in this beautiful forest area. Cycling, golfing and walking through the woods and over the heathland are favourites, with most visitors.

Ashurst Camping In The Forest Site, Lyndhurst Road, Ashurst, New Forest, Southampton, SO40 7AR. Here, visitors are treated to a location right in the heart of the woodlands which are easily accessed via foot or bike. Here, can find facilities which include showers; toilets and laundry services. There are also disabled facilities at this site. Within one mile, you will find shops, bars, restaurants and within around 5 miles, there are golfing and horse riding activities. Around 10 miles from the site there is boating, fishing and a beach. Ashurst Village is a 10 minute walk from here and Lyndhurst is around four miles away. Attractions close by include: New Forest Wildlife Park, Peppa Pig World and Paultons Family Theme Park.

Sherwood Forest– forest retreat.

Sherwood Forest is one of the most popular forests in the UK, made famous by being the home of Robin Hood. 450 acres in size and based in Nottinghamshire, Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve contains some of the oldest trees in Europe and the forest itself receives approximately 350,000 visitors every year.

Sherwood Forest Lodge Certified Site, Mansfield Road, Kings Clipstone, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This site is for club members only and is an adults-only site. It is open all year round and there are hard standing pitches, electric hooks ups, toilets and chemical disposal. Rallies are welcome here.

Shops are within an easy one mile, as are bars, restaurants and local transport links. For cycling enthusiasts, fishing experts and golfers, you will only need to travel 5 miles for easy access to these facilities.

Thetford Forest- forest retreat.

Situated in the county of Norfolk, Thetford Forest is the biggest lowland pine forest in the UK where there is a feast of wildlife activity and attractions. There is a Go Ape! Assault course with ropes, swings an d zip slides, eplxoire the 26 walking trails the forest has or you can take the children along to the Giant Sculpture Park.

Thetford Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Puddledock Farm, Great Hockham, Thetford, Norfolk. This is a peaceful site which has numerous facilities including: hard standing pitches, electric hook ups, toilets, showers, laundry services, a kids’ play area, a shop and wi-fi. In addition, you will find shops, restaurants and transport links within one mile.
