Christmas Markets 2020 – Motorhome Style

Christmas Markets have their own smell (mulled wine and ginger bread) their own atmosphere (frosty, dark December afternoons) and their own visual appeal, evident in a diverse blend of enthusiastic market stall holders ‘selling their continental wares’.

The quintessential ‘Christmassy’ feel that the Christmas markets possess has awakened an explosion of venues throughout the country. The markets used to be very popular in the UK until they were ousted by military and political leader, Oliver Cromwell. They slowly came back to life, first of all in Lincoln, where the event is now celebrating its 30th year and the domino effect continues throughout cities in nearly every region.

For the motorhome-enthusiast come Yuletide-loving citizens amongst us, we have detailed a selection of motorhome campsites in handy reach of some of the UK’s best-loved Christmas markets. Let’s have a look….

Lincoln Christmas Market

As the unofficial re-birth place of the Christmas markets, Lincoln is an ideal venue to choose for getting into the Christmas spirit. The cobbled streets and medieval square with 250 stalls add to the flavour of this cathedral city.

Nearby Campsite – Brinkle Spring Certified Site

This is a new site for club members which is located in Witham Valley where there is lots of wildlife and birds and just a short drive from Lincoln centre.

Close by, there are shops, a bar, a restaurant, and boating activities. Golfing and horse riding are available within around 5 miles. As well as the Christmas markets, you can also visit many of Lincoln’s other attractions including Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral. Whisby mature Park and Rand Farm Park.

Oxford Christmas Market

This year sees the return of the Oxford Christmas Market which will be located in the centre of the city. Local choirs and bands will be present at the market amongst the many wooden stalls offering seasonal gifts and treats.

Nearby Campsite – Greenhill Leisure Park

This family run site situated close to the centre of Oxford offers a range of different facilities and there are golfing and swimming activities available within 5 miles and public transport links are located around a mile away.

Facilities include: Hard standing pitches, electric hook ups, laundry services, a children’s play area, a shop on site, a bar and restaurant.

Other attractions nearby include: Blenheim Castle, Broughton Castle and Waddeson Manor.

Belfast Christmas Market

The Belfast Christmas Market is at Belfast City Hall with its own Gardens and close proximity to transport links.

The Market boasts a large variety of stalls as well as visits from Santa for the kids. Stalls include Belgian chocolates, cheeses from around the world, Schwenkgrille and Spanish Paella. There is also a Continental Bar, an Irish Bar and bratwurst stands.

Nearby Campsite – Delamont Country Park Camping And Caravanning Club Site, Downpatrick Road, Killeaugh, BT30 9 TZ

Facilities at this site which enjoys a number of facilities including showers, toilets, laundry facilities, a children’s play area, electric hook ups and fully serviced pitches. It is set in Delamont Country Park where there is a miniature railway and woodlands. Nearby, there is Tyrella Beach with sandy shores, Mourne Heritage Trust and Slieve Croob.

Manchester Christmas Market

The Manchester Christmas Markets are being run from the 14th November until the 21st December this year. These markets are very popular throughout the north-west and attract people from even further afield than the local region.

There are a number of different Christmas market stalls dotted throughout the city centre including Exchange Street, New Cathedral City and Albert Square. There are over 300 different stalls in total with lots of different food, jewellery and clothing on offer.

Nearby Campsite – Moorlands Caravan Park

Located in this picturesque area of Saddleworth and with stunning views of the moorland.

Facilities include: hard standing pitches, electric hook ups, showers, toilets, laundry facilities and fishing activities. Close by there are shops, bars and restaurants as well as horse riding and cycling activities.

Exeter Christmas Market

Based in the beautiful grounds of Exeter Cathedral, the focus of this annual market is very much about promoting and shawcasing fayre and produce from local businesses in the area. With lots of arts and crafts and stalls held by companies and shopkeepers from the Exeter area, as well as some additional festive stalls, this market runs from 19th November through to 18th December.

Nearby Campsite – Castle Brake Holiday Park, Exeter, Devon

Facilities include: Electric grass pitch, fully serviced hardstanding touring pitch, approximately 7.3 miles from Exeter, Devon, Dogs allowed. Close to Exeter, Newton Abbott and surrounding Devon areas.

Skipton Christmas Market

A full range of entertainment ensuring a Christmas atmosphere will take place in the arena on the High Street and at locations around the town, making The Skipton Christmas Market an ideal opportunity to sample a great Christmas atmosphere and to find a Christmas bargain at the same time.

A small site located in Skipton with stunning views.  Location just a 5 minute walk away from Skipton Town Centre, and with lots of other walks available around the campsite area.

Kingston Upon Thames Christmas Market

Spreading throughout the Ancient Market Place and ‘Alpine Village’ on the front lawn of All Saints Church, Kingston’s popular Christmas Market returns on Thursday 14 November, adding a special touch of festive cheer to the town. … It’s the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere and get into the Christmas spirit.

Wrexham Victorian Christmas Market

Wrexham’s Christmas Market has become one of the most eagerly awaited events in the town’s calendar and successfully attracts thousands of shoppers year after year.  This year experience a Victorian theme to the market and visitors will find over 100 stalls from Queens Square right up to and inside St Giles’ Church.

Located in the most picturesque part of the town centre, the Christmas market, which is bustling and attractive during daylight hours, really comes into it own and takes on a magical look as darkness approaches as each stall is lit and decorated with greenery and tiny twinkling lights.

Stoke On Trent Christmas Market

Stoke-on-Trent will this year be holding a Christmas Market in the City Centre (Hanley) from 26 November to 24 December.

Traders will be selling lots of Christmas goods and foods including great British cheeses, filled crepes, hot mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, exotic meats, German beer and bratwurst sausages, gingerbread houses, cakes, chocolate, fudge, hog roast, caribbean food as well as an extensive range of gifts for all the family from festive wooden chalets.

Leeds Christkindemarkt Traditional German

Christkindelmarkt is Leeds‘ annual traditional German Christmas market, bringing a little piece of Germany into the heart of the city.

Millennium Square will once again be transformed into a scenic winter village featuring a variety of authentic wooden chalet stalls, cosy indoor retreats, a traditional carousel and daily programme of light entertainment.

Glasgow Christmas Market

This year the Christmas Markets return to George Square and St Enoch Square offering a wide selection of festive gifts and delicious street food. A warm and welcoming bar will also add to the festive atmosphere in George Square offering a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
