Things To Do In Norfolk

Forest walks, bird watching and golfing are all popular pursuits in Norfolk and with a flat and wide-open landscape, cycling and walking are also popular! As well as outdoor activities, visitors can also soak in the history and culture of the area by taking a visit to one of the many stately homes or buildings in the town centre of Norwich. There is an abundance of entertainment in the form of concerts, exhibitions, galleries and festivals in the area, so it is worth checking the dates of these if you want to tie in some entertainment on your motorhome trip.

Popular parts of Norfolk include the well-known coastal towns of Great Yarmouth, Wells-next-the-sea and Lowerstoft; inland there is Thetford and as well as the city centre of Norwich.

There are so many things to do in Norfolk it would be impossible to list them all. Below we have detailed some of the most popular activities and destinations in Norfolk:

• Castle Acre is a rural village in northwest Norfolk whose name derives from a 12th century Norman castle. Visitors can take scenic walks in the area, including the Peddars Way and Nar Valley Way. Castle Acre sausages made from a secret recipe may also be sampled here.
• Covering 303 kilometres, Norfolk Broads comprises of many lakes, rivers and ponds where there are plenty of outdoor pursuits to enjoy, including ; boating; sailing; canoeing; kayaking; fishing and rock pooling. Most of the waterways within the broads are navigable with depths predominantly less than 4 metres. Dubbed the ‘Britain’s Magical Waterland’ the broads is an area where all the family can have fun.
• Norfolk and Norwich Festival is an internationally and nationally recognised arts event funded by the Arts Council England and Norwich and Norfolk Councils. The event features musical, stage and art exhibitions from a diverse range of artists.
• Thetford Forest is lowland pine forest which covers 50,000 acres and contains 26 walking trails, a Go Ape! centre, Giant Play Sculpture Trail, deer spotting, assault courses, bird watching, horse riding and biking trails, some are suitable for wheelchair users.
• Seahenge is a prehistoric monument which dates back to 2050 BC; it comprises of an upturned tree in the centre of a timber circle and is thought to have been created in the Bronze Age period as part of a ritual.
• Fireworks in Great Yarmouth. Weekly displays of fireworks are held in the Summer at Central Beach in Great Yarmouth. In addition, there are also displays at Hembsy Beach from 21st July until 1st September every Tuesday. Don’t miss out on the Halloween spectacular also on the 28th October

West Runton Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Holgate Lane, West Runton, Cromer, NR27 9NW

There are plenty of facilities on this Cromer-based campsite which is just a short walk away from the coastline. Facilities include: electric hook ups, hard standing pitches and gas refills. Laundry and washing up facilities are also on site as well as showers and a toilet block. Dogs are permitted and there is also a children’s play area. The site is close to the North Norfolk railway line, Sheringham Park, Cromer Museum where Britain’s oldest fossil resides.

Waveney Valley Holiday Park

Airstation Lane, Rushall, IP21 4QF

Dogs are permitted at this site and rallies are also welcome. There is a children’s playground, on-site shop, laundry facilities, electric hook ups, plus a shower and toilet block. In addition, there is an outdoor pool, bar and restaurant also on this site.

The site is suitable for all types of units and the pitches are split up into small group areas, providing space and room for ball games. Near by attractions include Suffolk Wildlife Park, Easton Farm Park, Norfolk Shire Horse Centre and Hillside Animal Sanctuary.

Cherry Tree Holiday Park

Mill Road, Burgh Castle, Great Yarmouth, NR31 9QR

Facilities at the park include: an on-site shop, a restaurant, bar, an outdoor and indoor pool, a bar, TV room and evening entertainment. Dogs are permitted on the site and there is free wi-fi in certain areas of the site.

Close by to Cherry Tree Farm there is the coast of Great Yarmouth where there are plenty of things to do including Pleasurewood Hills theme park, Great Yarmouth Races, Fritton Lake Countryworld and Suffolk Wildlife Park and the Sealife Centre.
