Jersey

There’s plenty to see and do in Jersey whilst on tour. The team at Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld have put together a Jersey travel guide for you

Jersey is one of the Channel Islands, an island of unspoiled landscape. With its unique blend of British and French influences, Jersey is a real gem of an island where you can get away from the hustle and bustle and relax.

History and Heritage of Jersey

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands; it is approximately 8,000 years old and is situated in the Bay of Mont St. Michel. This means the island has plenty of historical and heritage sites for you to visit. Why not view 16 New Street, the finest Georgian town house in St. Helier, constructed in the 1730s? Or you could visit the Jersey war tunnels, which tell the story of the occupation of the island during World War II.

If wartime history is of particular interest, there is also Noirmont Command Bunker, Grève de Lecq Barracks and the Channel Islands Military Museum to visit. Or take time to visit some of the historic castles on the island, such as Elizabeth Castle at St. Aubin’s Bay or Mont Orgueil Castle, known for its vast network of staircases, towers and secret rooms to explore.

Jersey is also home to many museums, including Jersey Living Legend Village, the Pallot Steam, Motor and General Museum, the Jersey Museum and Art Gallery, which explores everything that makes Jersey what it is today and the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry, an interactive museum that includes a treasure hunt for younger visitors.

Things to Do in Jersey

Jersey has all sorts of activities for all ages, clean beaches, safe country walks, family attractions and sporting activities for ages 8 to 80! Animal lovers can take a trip to Durrell Wildlife Park, a sanctuary to over 130 endangered species. Fans of nature can take a walk in one of the many beautiful gardens Jersey is home to, including the Gardens of Samarès Manor. You can also marvel at the most comprehensive herb garden in Europe, or pick up a bottle of wine or two at the La Mare Wine Estate.

More active family members can visit Aquasplash leisure pool which has a lazy river, two flumes, a tyre ride, boogie board and snorkelling sessions, a sauna and steam room. New to Jersey is the aMazin! Adventure Park, a new adventure park to rival Les Mielles Activity Centre. Bowling fans can knock the pins over at the 18 lane Jersey Bowl and for a unique experience, visit Fish ‘n’ Beads, a Jersey artist whom creates driftwood art and funky jewellery. Fish ‘n’ Beads have space for you to create your own jewellery sat outside by the sea for a nautical inspiration to your creations.
