Around The Isle of Man In A Motorhome

The Isle of Man is positioned in the Irish Sea with a population of around 84,500. Its capital is Douglas and the whole island has a diverse terrain and extensive coastline that would make any outdoor enthusiast’s mouth water. It is 32.5 miles long and 13.5 miles wide, so accessing a range of different places doesn’t require long journeys making The Isle of Man the perfect place to visit in a motorhome.

As well as the lure of the landscape, visitors to the Isle of Man are also drawn in by the world famous Manx Grand Prix, TT races, the annual motorcycle racing event held in May every year.

Taking Your Motorhome On The Ferry To Isle Of Man

There are a number of different ports you can take the ferry from including Dublin, Liverpool, Heysham and Belfast. Ferries have long been the main route into the Isle of Man and it takes approximately 3.5 hours from mainland UK (if you take the fast ferry this is shortened to 2.5 hours). Before you book your ferry it is advisable to check height restrictions on motorhomes.

Isle of Man Attractions

There are lots of attractions on the island, many of which are family orientated. These include:

  • Curraghs Wildlife Park is full of various different wildlife habitations; from marshes and swamps to rainforests and outback landscapes. Children can enjoy both the indoor play area and the Butterfly Nature Trail
  • Skye Serpetarium Reptile World has over 50 animals on display and Manx Museum is home to a skeleton of a British Elk and lots of different discovery trails for kids.
  • There is also the Leeces Museum, the Classic Boat Museum, the Man Aviation and Military Museum, a steam railway, the Gaiety Theatre, Go Karting and Basking sharks

This rural site is ideal for families and those wanting to bring their pets. It is close to the shops and camping equipment is available to hire. The facilities on offer include: hard standing pitches, toilets and showers. It is open 365 days per year, rallies are welcome and camp fires are permitted.

Attractions close to this site include: Manx National Heritage Centre, shopping centres and there is a myriad of outdoor fun to be had including: sea kayaking, coasteering, abseiling, walking, diving and gliding.

Glen Dhoo Camping Site, Hillberry, Onchan, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM4 5BJ

The facilities at this site include showers, toilets, laundry services, hard standing pitches and rallies are welcome. This site is situated on the TT course near Hillberry Corner.

Ballamoar Farm, Ballaugh Glen, Ballaugh, Isle of Man, IM7 5EE

Facilities at this site include hard standing pitches, toilets, showers, horse riding, wi-fi, a TV room and a games room. Close by, you will find shops, restaurants, bars and local transport links all within one mile. Within around five miles there is a beach and fishing and around 10 miles you will find golfing, swimming and cycling activities.

Hardstanding pitches, showers, toilets, laundry services, a children’s play area, shops, fishing and disabled facilities are all present on this site. Nearby, within around one mile, you will also find bars, restaurants, horse riding activities and a beach.
